I am David Wilkins and I will be your child’s social studies teacher this year. The focus of study for students will be American history for 8th Grade and World History for 7th Grade. We will begin our studies with a short geography unit, then progress through the units listed below, and wrap up with the Civil War/Reconstruction in the spring. Your child will also be learning about American government and the Constitution. In addition, your student will also be participating in current events that are usually presented every other Friday.
Some of the units of study will include:
8th Grade Native America Early Colonization Revolutionary War The Constitution The Jeffersonian and Jacksonian eras Manifest Destiny A Nation Divided The Civil War Reconstruction
In addition, your child will be constructing a 3-D timeline to highlight some of the facts they have learned about our country. The timeline will be completed around the end of January. Through the process of learning about our exciting and varied history, students will also discover what it means to be a participating American citizen, how government works, and the electoral college process.
